I think I need to start by saying ‘Thank you’ for having me in Holy Trinity. I have learnt so much during our twelve years here. I have made so many lasting friendships, and I have discovered so much about God. He is a God who is faithful, He keeps all his promises and He works out all His plans. It may not be in our timing, but in His timing He keeps His word and we can depend upon Him. I have especially enjoyed the wonderful times of praise and worship that we have. The many times of prayer together have been great, and the excitement of seeing God answering. I shall have some very special memories of so many people who I have prayed with over so many different situations. It was soon after we came to H.T. that I was asked to cater for a Scripture Union camp, this started me on “catering”. I have loved every minute of working in the Café and cooking for the customers. I have especially enjoyed catering for the Alpha courses that Mike and I have run. I also enjoyed doing the overhead projector – how else could someone who has no musical ability be involved with the Music Group?! I have been particularly thrilled and excited about the Canal being built right outside Holt Trinity. Isaiah 58 says that “if you spend yourselves on behalf of the hungry and satisfy the needs of the oppressed ... The Lord will guide you always; he will satisfy your needs... you will become like a well-watered garden.” Holy Trinity has fulfilled this kind of ministry all the while it has been here, and it was when we began to increase what we were already doing, that the canal was built. God gave us, in a very practical way, a “well-watered garden”. And I believe it is still His plan to provide for the complete renovation of the church building, the kitchen and café, as well as a front door with steps up from the Canal. It has not worked out according to our timing, but it will be in God’s time. I have to admit to a great excitement over our new house. When Mike gave up engineering, and had finished his time at New College, we sold our house in Dunfermline. We tried a few times to invest in a small flat, but this never worked out. We spent a lot of money on travel. God gave us opportunities to go to Brazil to visit Gerson, to Israel with Stan and Lorna, and of course to America to visit our daughter and her family. So it seemed we had nowhere to retire to – until God made it possible for us to buy a house. In Matthew 19:29 it says “... everyone who has left houses... shall receive a hundred times as much” and I have to admit I am really looking forward to moving in. Having said that, I have real feelings of sorrow and dread at leaving. It has been wonderful to be in Wester Hailes. It has been a very special privilege to share in some very deep situations with so many of you and I count it an honour to have been here for so long among so many very special people. Indeed, thank you for having me. |
