“Great
oaks from little acorns grow” goes the old saying and Blythswood Care could be
described in this way. It all began in Glasgow in 1966 with a group of
Christian students who wanted to share their faith. Taking the name of a street they called their enterprise the
Blythswood Tract Society. From that small beginning grew the charity which we
have supported for several years with our Christmas shoeboxes. Their
work has grown and developed into the international ministry it is today, much
of the work being in Eastern Europe. Vlad
lives at the Daniel Centre near Cluj in Romania. Brought up in an orphanage, he
had few life skills when he reached the age to leave and little prospect of
work. At the Centre he learns to look after himself and receives training that
can lead to employment, independence and a hopeful future. Horticulture is one
trade taught, not only growing produce for use at the centre, but marketing it
to local businesses. Emilia
at 7years old is one of 35 children who attend Talita Kum, an after-school
project of childcare. Many of these children from very poor homes struggle at
school. They may never have held a pencil, seen a book or used modelling
material. The project helps to develop basic skills to equip them for learning. Remus,
from a family of 8 children attends a pre-school kindergarten, the Elpis
Foundation in Dej where 54 boys and girls are offered Christian based nursery
education. These are a few of the ways in which God’s love is being shown in
practical ways, supported by Blythswood and through them by all who give and
who pray for their work. |
